Initial Student Evaluation
Required benchmark assessment used to determine student skill level before lessons or workshops
Service Description
At Vermont Literacy Network, we’re excited to help your child start their journey with Individual Lessons! To make sure we give them the best support possible, we begin with our FREE Initial Student Evaluation. This step provides great information and data regarding your child's skills before they jump into lessons. During the evaluation, we look at different aspects of reading and writing. We use simple, engaging activities like having your child write a short piece and read aloud so we can see how they’re doing. We also ask about what books they like and how they see themselves as readers and writers. Additionally, they will participate in a comprehensive phonics skill inventory. This helps us get a full picture of their skills and interests. Once we’ve gathered all this great information, we create a detailed Family Report for you. This report, which we’ll email to you, will outline what we’ve found and suggest the best ways to help your child succeed. We use this data to create a personalized plan that makes sure our Individual Lessons are just right for them. We’re thrilled to use data-driven practices to provide the best possible support and look forward to working with your child!
