Service Description
*** Students must be administered a FREE Initial Student Evaluation before registration in this program to ensure their instructional goals align with the content focus. Visit www.vermontliteracynetwork.com/individual-lessons to book an evaluation. *** Trooper’s Book Club is a six-week intervention program designed for students working on VCe words like "make" and "slide." Held on Saturdays from 1:00-2:00, this engaging program gives students the opportunity to improve their reading skills in a supportive environment. Each session starts with a 15-20 minute group lesson, then students will rotate to read directly to Trooper. While waiting for their turn with Trooper, students will engage in small-group activities to continue practicing their skills. The club is limited to six students to ensure plenty of personalized practice and attention. Instructional Focus & ISE Requirement: The instructional focus of Trooper’s Book Club is mastering VCe words, a key spelling pattern that transforms simple short vowel words into long vowel sounds (e.g., "hop" to "hope"). Every student must first complete a free Initial Student Evaluation (ISE), which helps determine if this specific VCe goal is right for them. The ISE assesses each child’s reading level and identifies the skills they need to focus on, ensuring every student who joins Trooper’s Book Club shares the same instructional goal. If prospective students are not at the same instructional goal, they will not be able to join this round of Trooper's Book Club. We are hopeful to have additional rounds of the intervention group in the future! Our Practices & Connection to Individual Lessons: Trooper’s Book Club builds on the same structured literacy approach used in our Individual Lessons, incorporating Orton-Gillingham practices, multisensory learning techniques, and the science of reading. Each session is grounded in evidence-based methods that focus on explicit instruction and systematic practice of phonics skills. Just like in our one-on-one lessons, students will engage in hands-on activities that strengthen their understanding of VCe words, using techniques like visual aids, tactile exercises, and oral practice to support deep learning. Are you ready to help your child improve their reading skills with Trooper’s Book Club? Book a free Initial Student Evaluation (ISE) today to determine if VCe words are the right focus for your learner and secure their spot in the club!
